Contract: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), permanent
Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per annum

The Smart Museum of Art seeks an experienced Curator to shape and implement its artistic vision in close collaboration with the Director. This role involves leading exhibitions, strengthening the permanent collection, engaging with academic and public audiences, and contributing to fundraising and institutional partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage exhibitions, commissions, and collection displays
  • Conduct and publish scholarly research on the collection
  • Serve as coordinating curator for traveling exhibitions
  • Write exhibition materials and grant applications
  • Supervise curatorial staff, interns, and student employees
  • Collaborate on public programming and curricular engagement
  • Represent the museum locally and nationally
  • Support Board of Governors and donor relations

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum 5–7 years of curatorial experience
  • Advanced degree in art history or related field (PhD preferred)
  • Strong communication and project management skills
  • Deep knowledge of museum best practices and academic museum trends
  • Commitment to collaboration and community engagement
