The Deutsche Bundesbank has collected art since 1957, focusing on painting, works on paper, and sculpture from the German-speaking world. Today, the collection includes more than 5,000 works displayed at the Frankfurt headquarters and across regional offices. The institution is now seeking a Curator to lead and represent this significant corporate collection.
Responsibilities
- Lead and strategically manage the Bundesbank’s art collection and its dedicated team.
- Plan and oversee the annual budget for acquisitions, storage, handling, and external scholarly or conservation services.
- Conceptualise and implement exhibitions, guided tours, and publications with the team.
- Represent the art collection and the Bundesbank in cultural and artistic contexts.
- Advise board members and senior leadership on individual projects, including the presentation of representative spaces.
- Produce speeches and written contributions on art, culture, and general central bank topics.
Candidate Profile
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Art History or a related field.
- Ideally at least three years of relevant experience in museums or corporate collections, covering collection strategy, exhibitions, publications, mediation, and Art-in-Architecture projects.
- Strong knowledge of administrative and decision-making processes, including procurement procedures in public institutions or companies.
- Excellent understanding of 20th-century and contemporary art, mediation, and the conception and delivery of national and international exhibitions.
- Very good knowledge of the art market and exhibition landscape, plus solid business management skills.
- Strong negotiation and communication abilities, with confidence representing the institution internally and externally.
- High level of commitment, flexibility, and willingness to travel.
- Excellent German and good English skills.
