Marta Herford is a museum of contemporary art with a focus on architecture, design, and fine art. The institution fosters cross-genre dialogue and presents internationally renowned artists in solo and group exhibitions. Marta offers multisensory experiences in harmony with its architecture designed by Frank Gehry. The museum functions as a social stage, learning space, and site of participation, emphasizing accessibility and broad public engagement.
The Curator will support the director in implementing the museum’s artistic programs, with a primary focus on exhibitions. Responsibilities include conceiving and organizing exhibitions, producing scholarly publications and texts, liaising with internal departments, the press, artists, and external partners, and representing the director in committees.
Responsibilities

Develop and organize exhibitions and artistic programs.

Produce accompanying publications and exhibition texts (digital and print).

Collaborate with Marta teams (exhibition production, education, press, administration, events, visitor services) and external partners.

Support artists in realizing their exhibitions and maintain contacts within the art scene locally, nationally, and internationally.

Represent the director in expert and political committees.
Requirements

Master’s degree or equivalent in Art History, Cultural Studies, Curatorial Studies, Museology, or a related field.

Several years of experience in independently developing and realizing contemporary art projects, including publications.

Strong knowledge of international contemporary art and a broad professional network.

Very good German and English skills; additional languages beneficial.

Experience obtaining third-party funding, ideally exhibition-related.

Willingness to live and work in the Herford area.
