Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz is seeking a Curator to oversee and develop its Graphic Collection, which comprises approximately 28,000 works and represents one of the museum’s most significant holdings. This permanent position combines collection management, scholarly research, exhibition curation, publications, provenance research, and public engagement. The successful candidate will also develop partnerships with artists, museums, universities and research institutions while contributing to innovative digital and educational initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the scholarly management, research and strategic development of the Graphic Collection.
  • Conduct provenance research and maintain comprehensive collection documentation.
  • Ensure the preservation, administration and professional presentation of the collection.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing loans.
  • Conceive and curate permanent collection displays and temporary exhibitions.
  • Produce exhibition catalogues, publications, lectures and scholarly contributions.
  • Develop innovative educational, public engagement and digital programmes.
  • Build and maintain collaborations with artists, museums, universities and research institutions at regional, national and international levels.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent university qualification) in Art History, Art Studies, Cultural Studies or a related humanities discipline with demonstrable art historical expertise.
  • At least three years of professional experience in an art museum or comparable cultural institution.
  • Minimum two years of experience independently conceiving and delivering exhibitions.
  • Experience editing scholarly catalogues and publications.
  • German language proficiency of at least B2.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of current debates surrounding participation, inclusion, diversity, democracy education, sustainability, anti-discrimination and digital transformation.
  • Experience working with museum collection management databases.
