MASI is seeking a Curator to contribute to the development of its artistic and research programme. Working closely with the museum’s leadership and departments, the curator will research, develop and deliver exhibitions, publications, events and other projects, taking independent responsibility for assigned projects from concept to completion.

The position has a particular focus on contemporary art and requires demonstrated curatorial experience with performance.

Responsibilities

The Curator will conceive and deliver solo and thematic exhibitions, undertake research for exhibitions and publications, and contribute to catalogues, essays and other editorial projects. They will develop relationships with artists, curators, museums and partner institutions in Switzerland and internationally.

The role also involves planning events and programmes connected to exhibitions, coordinating installations with artists, architects, technicians and registrars, and presenting the museum’s work through tours, talks and written material. The curator will manage project schedules and budgets in collaboration with the relevant teams.

Candidate profile

Applicants should have a university education, preferably in art history, cultural studies or a related field, and several years of curatorial experience in a museum. MASI requires a strong knowledge of contemporary art and current curatorial discourse, experience working with international partners, and a record of independently developing exhibitions and curatorial projects.

Curatorial experience with performance is required, as are excellent written and spoken Italian and English. German or French, a professional network within the Swiss art sector, and experience curating moving-image work are advantages.

The successful candidate must be willing to settle in the Lugano region. MASI also seeks someone who can work independently and collaboratively, manage several projects and deadlines, and communicate effectively with different audiences and colleagues.
