The City Palace Museum Jaipur is seeking a Curator to contribute to research, collections care, exhibitions and public interpretation. This mid-level role combines object-based curatorial work with the coordination of departmental workflows, records and projects.
The museum preserves Jaipur’s artistic, historical and cultural traditions, working across collections, conservation, education, outreach and events to make the region’s heritage accessible to the public.
Responsibilities
The Curator will document and research the collection, maintain inventories and object locations, and coordinate artwork movements with the conservation team. They will support conservation assessments and preventive care, and develop research for displays, publications and educational activities.
The postholder will propose and curate temporary and permanent exhibitions, write exhibition texts and labels, and work with design, education and technical colleagues on delivery. They will also maintain existing permanent galleries and contribute to scholarly publications, digital archives and online content.
Public engagement responsibilities include guided tours, workshops, lectures and programmes for children and communities. The role also involves managing access requests, maintaining loan and exhibition records, preparing grant applications and building relationships with academic institutions.
Candidate profile
Applicants must have a postgraduate degree in history, art history, museum studies, heritage management or a related field, alongside at least five years of relevant experience in a museum, archive or cultural institution.
The museum seeks object expertise, documentation and collections management skills, and the ability to develop clear narratives for exhibitions and programmes. Strong research and writing skills in English are essential, alongside written and spoken communication in Hindi. Applicants should also be confident using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace and managing several project timelines.
