The Museum of Fine Arts Leipzig (MdbK) encourages people to connect – with other people, their surroundings and with art. Its collections include photographs, paintings, graphics, installations, media works and sculptures from eight centuries, mainly from European art history. One focus is on 20th and 21st century art from Leipzig and its location in an international context. The extensive exhibition activity includes contemporary positions and old masters alike. Participatory offers, events and projects invite participation. The MdbK positions itself as an inclusive, barrier-free and discrimination-critical museum. It was built through the commitment of Leipzig collectors and opened in 1858. Since 2004, the museum has been located in an impressive new building in the center of the city.
