We are a recently established, very small and independent Photographic Museum in Zagreb, Croatia specialising in themes of War and Conflict and this is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated individual to take ownership of and curate our new Exhibition Dictator! which starts in the spring of 2020.

We founded this museum to campaign against war and our highly successful first exhibit about the Croatian War of Independence was launched with the catchphrase “Keep War in A Museum!”. With our second exhibition Dictator! we would expect our Curator to honour our campaigning aspirations!

We want from you a revealing, surprising and humorous exhibit that gets to the heart of what type of person becomes a dictator by revealing the caricatures and self parody of dictators’ excesses, largely (although not exclusively) through photography.

Whilst our Museum is based in Zagreb, Croatia – we do not expect our Curator to be based here with us but would primarily be home based and working part-time, visiting Zagreb when needed.

The ideal candidate will have experience of curatorial work with a photography, art or visual culture collection within a museum or art gallery.

Crucial to the role is the relevant photographic research experience to source exhibited photographs, deal with photographers and copyright owners. We will also expect our Curator to co-manage the logistics of creating the exhibit with our small team in Zagreb.

A degree level, or equivalent, in history of photography or a related subject would be an advantage but not essential.

First and foremost we are interested in someone who has the right way of thinking! We want thought-provoking, original and fun ideas about how best expose the inner workings of a dictator’s psyche.
