The Collection and access to it are of central importance to the Director and IMMA Board. From 2021 onwards (IMMA’s 30th Anniversary) programming will be focused around the Collection, with 50% of the museum space to be dedicated to the long term presentation of the Collection. The role of Curator of Collections is essential to this aim and will be a key driver in the delivery of expanded research, increased display and amelioration of public access to the Collection.
The purpose of this role is to work with the Head of Collections to develop and lead innovative exhibitions, displays and projects that deeply explore the Collection and its archives; to contribute to new thinking on modern and contemporary art developments; to support artists’ practice and create effective platforms for IMMA’s audiences to engage with contemporary art practice. The Curator will work with the Head of Collections to build public access to the Collection and its Archives through loans and partnerships; to play a key role in the coordination of the digital presentation of the Collection online, to work to establish IMMA as a digital leader and build towards becoming the leading online resource for contemporary Irish Art. In addition, the Curator will contribute to the planning and research that will inform key decisions in the development of the future Collection and Learning Centre (CALC) on the site of IMMA/RHK, one of IMMA’s high-level objectives in its Strategic Plan.
