This position is located at the Office of State Museum in New Orleans, LA and is in a Career Progression Group to a Curator 3. This position may be filled as a Curator 1, 2, or 3 based on the qualifications of the selected applicant.
This position will be filled using the Museum option.

Examples of Work
The Curator 3 performs professional work in support of the design, development, fabrication and installation of exhibits and public programs of the Louisiana State Museum. This position works in conjunction with and is supervise by the Museum Division Director.

Assist in the design and planning of exhibits. In consultation with appropriate museum staff and/or guest curators/historians/artists/scholars, creates original concepts and design ideas for temporary and permanent exhibits using drawings, design boards, schematics, graphic designs, etc. to communicate the most effective designs and techniques to produce visually compelling, informative, engaging, innovative, relevant, and inclusive methods for visitors to discover and connect with history, art, culture, and corresponding LSM artifacts and exhibitions. Recommends ways to meet exhibition needs within budget limits.

Installs and de-installs museum exhibitions, resolving problems of design and installation; delivers and assists in the installation of exhibits at all nine LWM locations. Builds appropriate artifact mounts, and educates matting framing of two-dimensional pieces.

Designs and produces printed and digital graphics, text panels, and interpretive labels for exhibitions using up-to-date presentational methods that are experiential, engaging and accessible to diverse audiences.

Communicates and works with outside partners and contractors, when needed, to ensure the appropriately priced, and timely production and delivery of required exhibition components.

Conducts gallery inspections and coordinates maintenance activities with other staff.
