The Arts and Cultural Development team is part of the Community Arts, Culture and Library Services department at the City of Greater Dandenong – with a strong focus on providing quality community engagement opportunities that enhance the lives of the community by providing safe, interactive and multifaceted services and programs.
The Curator role sits within the dynamic and energetic Arts and Cultural Development team at the City of Greater Dandenong. The team works across the municipality on a variety of projects and is currently preparing the opening of Dandenong New Art, a new contemporary gallery in the heart of central Dandenong.
The Curator is responsible for developing and delivering a program of diverse, innovative, and relevant visual arts exhibitions and related activities across a variety of exhibition venues and facilities, including Dandenong New Art (due to open in 2022). This includes developing a comprehensive calendar of public engagement programs and events for cultural venues that connect with Council objectives to maximise participation and community engagement with the arts.
The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary education in Arts Administration/Fine Arts/Curation or related discipline with relevant experience in curating a diverse range of visual art exhibitions at a high level. They will be a creative thinker with an ability to develop and realise an innovate program that engages within and beyond the gallery walls. They will have strong communication and networking skills and be a team player, with a willingness to work collaboratively with other internal and externals stakeholders. We are seeking someone who will provide opportunities for a variety of artists to participate in the visual arts exhibition program and who is well connected in the visual arts sector.

In accordance with government or Council requirements, the successful candidate will be required to demonstrate evidence of an approved COVID-19 vaccination, including booster injections or an authorised medical exemption.
You may be required to undertake practical testing, work preference profiling / psychometric testing, functional capacity assessment (physical) or aptitude testing.
The successful candidate will be asked to produce a clear Working with Children Check and will be asked to consent to a national police check (and where relevant an ‘international criminal history check’), subject to the operation of spent conviction laws.
