Santander Fundación is Seeking a Curator Art & Technology
Application deadline: Not specified.
Santander (www.santander.com) is evolving from being a high-impact global brand into a technology-driven organization, and people are at the center of this journey. Together, we are leading a customer-focused transformation that values disruptive thinking, the courage to challenge what is possible, and the ability to innovate.
This is more than a strategic shift — it is an opportunity to grow, learn, and make a real impact.
Our mission is to help more people and businesses prosper. We embrace a strong risk culture and expect all our teams to take a proactive and responsible approach to risk management.
About the Role
Faro Santander — Fundación Banco Santander is looking for a Curator of Art and Technology based in Santander.
Faro Santander understands art and technology as a way to comprehend the reality of our time. Together, they open up critical possibilities, as well as the opportunity to redefine aesthetic experience and social interaction. We are looking for someone with strong curatorial judgment and a genuine curiosity about artists’ relationship with the digital tools of their era, and who has the ambition to make Faro a benchmark in this field.
Reporting to the Director of Programs, the Curator of Art and Technology will be responsible for conceiving and producing projects that operate across physical spaces, digital platforms, and hybrid formats, working cross-departmentally with the Public Programs, Education, and Exhibitions teams. Their work will begin before the doors open: building the network of artists, technologists, and institutions that will enable programming with true international reach.
We are redefining how we work through innovation, cutting-edge technology, collaboration, and the freedom to explore new ideas.
In this role, your main responsibilities will include:
Program Development
Conceive and develop, together with the Director of Programs, a distinctive and innovative program that explores the intersection between art and technology — including AI, extended realities (VR/AR), and new media. Projects will be developed through artistic proposals for the gallery specifically equipped for this purpose, as well as through virtual platforms and events in collaboration with the rest of the team.
Technological Mediation
Design interactive proposals that enrich the public’s experience and their relationship with Faro’s artistic content (Collections, Exhibitions, and others) through the use of digital tools, ensuring an innovative and unique experience at Faro.
Institutional Collaboration
Develop and maintain an active network with digital artists, technologists, universities, and cultural institutions at the local, national, and international levels. Faro is born with a collaborative vocation — co-production and exchange are central to its identity.
Management and Production
Oversee the complete cycle of each project: schedule planning and technical coordination. The curator has autonomy over the projects they lead and is responsible for their comprehensive execution — managing external hiring when necessary and with the support of the Faro team.
Institutional Representation
Act as a reference figure for Faro in the art and technology ecosystem: in forums, festivals, publications, and industry conversations. Whoever holds this role actively contributes to defining the institution’s positioning in this field.
Administrative Management
Coordinate program operations: budget planning, tracking revenue and attendance targets, and applying evaluation methodologies to measure the social and cultural impact of the programming.
Requirements
Our people are our greatest strength. Each person contributes unique perspectives that make us stronger as a team and as an organization. We value who they are and amplify what they bring.
The following requirements represent the essential knowledge, skills, and competencies for this role.
Professional Experience
Demonstrable experience in equivalent content and responsibility roles, and more specifically in contemporary art curation and in projects that use technology as an artistic medium — not just as technical support.
Experience in international environments and in co-production projects with institutions is highly valued.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art History, Audiovisual Communication, or Engineering/Computer Science with a strong creative component.
A specialized Master’s degree in Digital Curation, Art and New Media, or Digital Humanities is highly valued.
Languages
Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish and English. English is essential: the curator will work with international artists and collaborate with Faro’s partner institutions in co-producing projects and content.
Proficiency in other languages is valued.
Technical Skills (Hard Skills)
Deep knowledge of digital art and new media: its references, its history, its current debates.
Ability to coordinate complex technical installations with specialized production teams.
Proficiency in Microsoft Suite applications.
Interpersonal Skills (Soft Skills)
Curatorial judgment: you know how to distinguish work that matters from work that merely impresses, and you can articulate why.
Mediation skills: you naturally translate between artistic and technical language, and you build trust with very different profiles.
Rigor and adaptability: you manage complex, changing projects without losing track or missing deadlines.
Critical thinking about technology: you are not interested in novelty for its own sake, but in what it reveals about how we live and how artists respond to that.
Other
Availability for international travel.
