Curator/Assistant Manager (Programmes)

The Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore (ICA Singapore) is the curatorial division of LASALLE, dedicated to the research and exhibition of new and experimental art across the fine arts, design and media practices in Asia and internationally. We foster a culture of collaboration, risk and critical thinking and engage audiences in creative exchange through a programme of innovative exhibitions, programmes and publishing.

Reporting to the Director, you will curate and coordinate curriculum-related (internal) as well as international exhibitions and associated activities. You will supervise three Exhibitions team members, volunteers and interns. Your key responsibilities include to:

  • Provide curatorial expertise for exhibitions, publications, public programmes, symposiums and workshops
  • Develop and coordinate exhibitions, and oversee installations
  • Liaise with academic staff to develop curriculum links and initiate interdisciplinary projects
  • Assist in managing the College’s permanent collections
  • Provide guidance and supervisory support to a small team which includes interns and volunteers
  • Assist the Director in fundraising, building international partnerships, and strategic and operational planning.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a visual arts-related discipline
  • At least 7 years’ experience in curating and coordinating contemporary visual art exhibitions in galleries or museums
  • Experience in liaising with multiple stakeholders
  • Good knowledge of contemporary art practices in Southeast Asia, and understanding of the international art scene
  • Good knowledge of collections management policies and procedures
  • Good verbal and written communication, interpersonal and planning skills, with the ability to work as part of a team
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Proficient computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and preferably Adobe Creative Suite

Incumbent who has substantive relevant experience may be considered for higher-level appointment.
