Position Overview
The MAMA Curator, Collections is responsible for driving the development and execution of the Museum’s artistic programs, particularly those centered around collection-based exhibitions. This role involves close collaboration with the Curatorial team and external stakeholders to ensure the Museum’s collection is managed and accessed effectively. The position demands a proactive engagement with museum activities, maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the Museum’s goals and ensuring these are communicated across the institution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and delivery of collection-focused artistic programs.
- Engage with external stakeholders to contribute to the growth and management of the Museum Collection.
- Oversee the administrative requirements within the Curatorial team.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the Museum’s objectives through active participation in museum activities.
- Ensure effective communication and integration of artistic programming goals across the museum.
- Adhere to Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation and AlburyCity policies.
Employment Conditions
- Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm, with an RDO as per AlburyCity guidelines.
- Uniform: A compulsory uniform is required as per AlburyCity’s Dress Code.
- Work Environment: The role involves both indoor and outdoor activities, requiring moderate physical fitness.
- Compliance: Subject to alcohol and drug testing, a current Australian National Police Check is required.
- Location: Based at Murray Art Museum Albury with potential work at external sites.
Essential Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in art history, theory, practice, curatorial studies, or a related discipline.
Desirable Criteria
- Class C (standard) Driver’s Licence.
Experience and Skills
- Proven curatorial experience in a collecting institution, non-profit sector, or independently.
- Expertise in contemporary artistic practices and debates.
- Experience in arts administration, database management, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Skills in art handling, packing, and care.
- Strong attention to detail.
