Schinkel Pavillon Trägerverein e.V. is seeking Curator / Deputy Artistic Director (m/f/d)

Application deadline: 28 August 2026

Under the artistic direction of Nina Pohl, the Schinkel Pavillon constitutes a unique space for contemporary art, presenting outstanding exhibitions of international resonance in a listed architectural gem in the heart of Berlin. Our program brings emerging artists together with historically influential positions, with a particular focus on expansive solo presentations that enter into intensive dialogue with the space’s iconic architecture.

As a growing and vibrant institution of international renown, the Schinkel Pavillon is seeking a Curator at the earliest possible date, with the prospect of assuming the role of Deputy Artistic Director.

The position combines curatorial responsibility with the prospect of taking on the function of Deputy Artistic Director following an appropriate onboarding period. Prerequisites for this are relevant leadership experience as well as experience at a senior level.

About the role

The Schinkel Pavillon is looking for a personality who independently develops exhibitions and projects, brings international networks to the institution, and actively helps shape the programmatic direction and further development of the house.

This is an influential leadership position for an experienced curator with a proven track record of realizing internationally significant projects. You will shape the intellectual and strategic direction of the program, foster creative and research-based forms of presentation for a diverse international audience, and strengthen the Schinkel Pavillon as a place of excellence and innovation.

Collaboration is at the heart of this position. You will work closely with the Artistic Director, the Head of Production, and the Managing Director, sharing responsibility for curating as well as for public funding and third-party fundraising. In addition, you will further develop the exhibition and presentation strategy, manage budgets and schedules, and maintain relationships with artists, lenders, and institutions worldwide.

As an inspiring leader, you will guide and support a team, creating a culture of creativity and collaboration. You will also play an important role in the further development of the institution and be responsible for third-party fundraising as well as applications for public funding.

We are looking for a personality with in-depth expertise in modern and contemporary art, a strong international outlook, and outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational skills. A high degree of experience in exhibition conception as well as in sponsorship, fundraising, and third-party funding acquisition is a prerequisite.

Remuneration

Remuneration is based on the German public sector pay scale (TVöD), pay grade 13, and depends on qualifications and professional experience.
