The Ludwig Forum for International Art in Aachen, Germany, is seeking a Curator/Deputy Director (m/f/d) to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Artistic Programs: Assist the Director in implementing all artistic programs, particularly exhibitions and research projects, including preparing funding applications.
- Exhibition Development: Conceive and execute independent exhibition formats, encompassing concept development, scholarly research, budgeting, and installation.
- Audience Development: Create formats and concepts to expand and engage diverse audiences.
- Communication Facilitation: Promote information exchange among the Director, staff, administration, press, local, regional, and international museum colleagues, foundations, sponsors, friends, partners, and visitors.
- Collection Management: Oversee specific collection areas and support the inventory process.
- Publication Oversight: Manage publications, control print products, and occasionally oversee programs related to temporary exhibitions and collection presentations.
- Deputy Leadership: Act as the Deputy Director, handling delegated personnel matters and assisting with maintenance and renovation projects, including those related to storage facilities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s degree or doctorate in Art History, Art Studies, Cultural Studies, Museology/Museum Studies, or a related field.
- Experience: Several years in exhibition management within museums or similar art institutions, including scholarly publications and committee work.
- Expertise: In-depth knowledge of international contemporary art.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in planning and organization.
- Effective communication techniques.
- Leadership experience.
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
- Teamwork, customer orientation, high commitment, and resilience.
- Independence, responsibility, cooperation, professional demeanor, and intercultural competence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completed doctorate in relevant fields.
- Experience in networking with artists, gallerists, and museum professionals.
