This post is a unique opportunity to programme and manage a new exhibition, engagement and learning space in the heart of Newcastle upon Tyne, based at Newcastle University’s city centre campus. Following a substantial donation from renowned architect Sir Terry Farrell, renovations are shortly to begin to create a new gallery and urban room: an exploratory space for world-leading research on cities, architecture, planning, landscape, and urban environments to host permanent and temporary exhibits, visiting exhibitions, and an education programme, engaging local and global communities in the past and future of designed environments.

The Director/Curator will develop an exciting and challenging vision for the Centre and its exhibition programme. They will be responsible for generating content for the exhibition spaces and public programmes. The Director/Curator will be a leader in cities, urban design and architecture curation, have a national – and ideally international – reputation and network of contacts, and be willing to represent the Farrell Centre at public presentations and to the press. You must be adept at working in a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, able to articulate, through exhibition and community engagement, complex ideas to a wide public audience. You will thus be responsible for developing a distinctive identity for the gallery and urban room.
