About the Role
The City of Schwäbisch Gmünd is hiring a Curator for Contemporary Art and PR Specialist to join its museum team. This dual-role position focuses on curating contemporary art exhibitions at the Galerie im Prediger and managing public relations for the Museum im Prediger, the Galerie im Prediger, and the Silberwarenmuseum Ott-Pausersche Fabrik.
Schwäbisch Gmünd, with 63,000 residents, is home to one of the oldest museums in Baden-Württemberg, featuring extensive collections ranging from Roman artifacts to contemporary art. The Galerie im Prediger, a 370 m² exhibition space, is dedicated to showcasing regional and international contemporary art.
Key Responsibilities
At Galerie im Prediger:
- Curate, plan, and execute contemporary art exhibitions and events.
- Develop program concepts in collaboration with the museum director.
- Build and maintain relationships with artists, galleries, and museums.
- Write exhibition texts, manage publications, and oversee budgets for exhibitions and productions.
Public Relations:
- Manage media relations (print, radio, TV) and create social media content.
- Oversee the online presence of the museum and gallery.
- Write press releases and distribute information on various platforms.
- Contribute to cultural policy development for Schwäbisch Gmünd.
At the Museum im Prediger and Silberwarenmuseum Ott-Pausersche Fabrik:
- Assist with exhibitions and media production for both venues.
- Secure third-party funding for museum projects.
- Conduct guided tours of exhibitions.
Requirements
- Degree in art history, cultural management, or related fields.
- In-depth knowledge of contemporary art and interest in the museum’s collections.
- Professional experience in galleries, museums, or exhibitions.
- Excellent communication and team skills.
- Strong proficiency in German and English; additional languages are a plus.
- Competence in Windows Office; knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator is an advantage.
