Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is seeking a Curator for Research to devise, fundraise for, deliver, and communicate experiences that support artist development and research. The role combines practical curatorial work with programme management, research dissemination, and community engagement within ESW’s sculpture-focused environment.
Position Details
- Permanent, 4 days/week (28 hours)
- Salary: £30,254–£32,254 pro rata, depending on experience
- Flexible working considered, including job-share proposals or shorter hours
- Work location: 21 Hawthornvale, Edinburgh (some remote work negotiable)
- Annual leave: 35 days pro rata (including bank holidays and ~2 weeks closure at year-end)
- Reports to: Director
- Possible supervision of programme assistants, exhibition hosts, and staff involved in programme delivery
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop artist development programmes (residencies, bursaries, fellowships, awards)
- Deliver the annual summer programme and related events
- Produce and disseminate research generated within ESW
- Lead communication and promotion of the programme, including social media, press, and newsletters
- Maintain and develop partnerships with institutions, universities, galleries, and arts organisations
- Manage programme budgets and provide regular reports to the Director
- Fundraise for projects and the organisation
- Conduct evaluation across programmes and feed insights into strategic planning
- Undertake professional development to stay current in contemporary sculpture practice
- Contribute to equality, diversity, inclusion, and environmental awareness in all activities
Eligibility Criteria
- Knowledge of contemporary art, including beyond Western perspectives
- Experience with sculpture-based projects and artist development
- Proven skills in project management, communication, fundraising, and evaluation
- Ability to work with diverse artists, audiences, and external partners
- Teamwork, collaborative decision-making, professionalism, and supportive approach to artists
- Desirable: familiarity with Creative Scotland priorities
