Leeds Art Gallery is seeking to appoint a Curator of Exhibitions for maternity cover of up to 12 months, who will work closely with colleagues on the management and delivery of an inspirational, challenging yet accessible and socially inclusive exhibition programme as part of the overall visitor experience of Leeds Art Gallery and in line with Leeds Museums and Galleries’ objectives.
The role will ensure the delivery of the current exhibition programme, which includes the work of Georgina Starr, Zadie Xa and Milena Dragicevic for 2021, as well as continuing the development of the future programme and key partnerships with Yorkshire Sculpture International, Leeds2023 and Arts Council England.
Leeds Art Gallery is part of Leeds Museums and Galleries which is run by Leeds City Council. Leeds Museums and Galleries is an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation. In 2018/19 Leeds Art Gallery welcomed over 469,000 visitors and is the third most visited free attraction for Yorkshire and Humber according to Visit England’s annual survey.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, knowledgeable and experienced in exhibition-making and working with artists, with excellent written and oral communication skills and a clear commitment to the visual arts.
Due to the global pandemic we find ourselves in, it is essential the candidate is able to quickly adapt and find new ways of engaging our audience and bringing our exhibition programme to life online and through digital formats.
