Curator residency in Ebenböckhaus (One Position)

The City of Munich and their program ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MUNICH with its two residences Villa Waldberta and Ebenböckhaus stand for openness, encounters, and exchanges between people from all over the world. The goal of the curator residence at Ebenböckhaus is to introduce international curators to the independent art scene in Munich and thus to create new opportunities for exchanges and collaborations.
Who can apply?
Professional curators who reside outside of the State of Bavaria may apply. The prerequisite is at least two years of experience working as a curator, or at least three completed curatorial projects.
We welcome applications from persons of all nationalities, religions, sexual identities, age groups, and social backgrounds. We also look forward to receive applications from persons with disabilities; as Villa Waldberta is not barrier-free, if need be we would request that you contact us in advance in order to clarify the availability of the necessary infrastructure, and, when required, to find individual, tailored solutions.
We offer:
- Reimbursement of travel costs (economy class) up to € 350.00 within Europe, and up to € 800.00 if you travel from outside Europe to Munich.
- One rent-free apartment with its own kitchen and bathroom at Ebenböckhaus
- A monthly grant of € 1,200.00 per person.
- A monthly ticket for public transportation in Munich.
- Organized meetings with artists and curators, as well as visits to galleries and art institutions in Munich
- A good working knowledge of spoken and written English
- The willingness to work together with the other guest artists, with the ARTIST IN RESIDENCE MUNICH team, and with our partners in the art and cultural fields in Munich
- The willingness to participate in events open to the general public

We require the following documents in German or English (as a PDF file, exclusively):
- Your curriculum vitae with details on curatorial projects
- A statement on your personal curatorial concepts, and, if applicable, methods
- A motivation letter that takes into account the (independent) art scene in Munich, and possible research subjects and approaches
Selection process
The selection will be made by a committee of representatives from the Department of Arts and Culture. If deemed necessary, external experts or cooperation partners in Munich will be consulted. We will inform you by February 28, 2021 concerning whether or not your application has been accepted.
Covid-19 pandemic
Depending upon the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, we reserve the right to make changes to the residency, including the right to cancel the residency.
