Curator in residence at Hordaland Kunstsenter
OPEN CALL: Artist-in-residence at Hordaland Kunstsenter
Application deadline: 16. January 2022
In 2022, Hordaland Kunstsenter will focus its artist-in-residency programme on curatorial practices in all iterations; for those working independently, interdependently or as part of an institution.
This year we see the residency program as an opportunity to encourage institutional collaboration, international exchange and initiate discussions on how to support one another in terms of working models, perspectives and tool building.
This residency model opens up a wealth of resources for both regional artists and invited residents, expanding their international networks and invites new perspectives from practitioners engaging in dialogue with the Bergen cultural scene.
Applications across various curatorial disciplines will be accepted, including, but not limited to those in publishing, dance, visual arts, social practice and performance.
Residency timeline:
The residency program is structured around the availability of the selected candidates and we do not have concrete time slots. We anticipate setting the first residency around February 2022 and we host on average, 7 residents per year.
The majority of residents are invited to undertake a month long stay in Bergen.
Outcome:
It is expected that the resident visitor gives a public presentation/talk at Hordaland Kunstsenter during their stay.
About Hordaland Kunstsenter:
Hordaland Kunstsenter was established in 1976 as the first artist-run art centre in Norway. The core of our activities is our exhibition program, in which commissioning new projects from international artists plays an important role.
Hordaland Kunstsenter has hosted a residency program since 1987, which was initially open to Nordic region artists, but is now open to candidates of any nationality.
Our aim is to increase the visibility of contemporary art in and from Norway, and to create opportunities for exchange between arts professionals in different geographic and political contexts.
In recent years artists’ books, public lectures, discussions, and collaborations outside of the institution have become an integral part of our program as well, and we hope to develop more avenues of exploration in response to shifts and new intersections in the field.
What we offer:
Hordaland Kunstsenter covers the guest’s travel costs, provides accommodation, and offers a stipend to help offset the high cost of living in Norway. Hordaland Kunstsenter facilitates introductions to the local art scene and provides administrative and, where possible, logistical support for more specialised or subject-specific research.
*Visa costs are to be covered by the visiting resident
