Responsibilities

  • Curatorial Leadership:
    • Lead or support initiatives to expand the Museum’s contemporary art collections.
    • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including the Director and Board of Trustees, to enhance acquisitions.
    • Engage with the community through social media and the web to promote new acquisitions and collection-related activities.
  • Exhibition Coordination:
    • Propose, organize, and coordinate innovative exhibitions of contemporary art.
    • Collaborate with multiple departments to meet exhibition production schedule deadlines.
    • Participate in the reinterpretation of the collection and the management of collections on loan.
  • Research and Scholarship:
    • Conduct advanced scholarly art historical research on the collection and prospective acquisitions.
    • Advocate for and contribute to public and educational programming to increase collection visibility.
    • Supervise and mentor the Curatorial Assistant and interns.

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Seven to ten years as a curator with established arts organizations.
    • Strong record of exhibitions and publications, demonstrating expertise in curatorial strategies.
  • Knowledge and Skills:
    • Knowledge of contemporary art and critical histories and theories of race, class, ability, and gender in art.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, collaboration abilities, and strategic thinking.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, including staff, donors, Trustees, and community members.
    • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) in the field.

Preferred Skills

  • MA or PhD in a relevant field.

  • Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm (or other; possibly include)
