Introduction
The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Netherlands’ premier museum for modern and contemporary art and design, is seeking a Modern Art Curator (M/F/X) to join its team for 32 hours a week.

Position Overview
As a Modern Art Curator, you will work within a team of curators and report to the director. Your primary focus will be on visual arts up to 1950, encompassing temporary exhibitions, research, collaborations, co-productions, and collection presentations. The role also involves addressing questions and challenges related to an extensive collection.
Responsibilities
- Engage with Modern Art from a global perspective.
- Integrate the Modern Art collection into the museum’s presentation, research, and collection policies.
- Develop a vision for presenting, collecting, and maintaining Modern Art from a contemporary standpoint.
- Contribute to the museum’s artistic program by curating exhibitions, projects, and publications.
- Collaborate with specialized colleagues from various departments and organizations to ensure scholarly access to the collection.
- Foster connections with national and international partners, actively seeking collaboration opportunities.
- Stay informed and cultivate expertise in the field of Modern Art.
- Serve as a liaison within the museum for specialist information requests.
- Develop innovative audience-oriented formats alongside exhibitions and collection presentations.
- Participate in acquisitions and engage with funds and private donors in coordination with the Development department.
- Advocate for the museum and maintain key relationships.
Candidate Profile
- Completed university studies with a strong background in the realm of Modern Art.
- Possess a substantive vision, emphasizing a global perspective and addressing social questions and themes while staying attuned to Art and cultural science developments.
- Prioritize a public-centered approach and demonstrate curiosity and inquisitiveness.
- Collaborative mindset, eager to share ideas, knowledge, and experiences with peers.
- Establish a network comprising collectors, fellow institutions, and researchers, both within and beyond the Netherlands.
- Proficient in Dutch and English, both spoken and written, or willing to attain proficiency within a reasonable timeframe.

What We Offer
- A one-year employment contract with the potential for a permanent position.
- Competitive salary ranging from €3,801 to €5,075 gross per month (scale 11) based on a 36-hour workweek, excluding holiday and year-end bonuses, as per the Museum CLA.
