The Curator of Academic Programs strengthens the museum’s role in Oberlin College’s curriculum by conceptualizing and developing interdisciplinary academic programs. The position leads the Academic Programs team, collaborates with faculty, and integrates the museum’s collection into courses across disciplines. The role involves teaching in the galleries and Print Study Room, developing faculty initiatives, managing teaching exhibitions, supporting the museum’s strategic plan, and liaising with collections curators and the education team.
Employment Details
- Full-time, 12-month administrative and professional staff position
- Reports to the museum director
- Supervises Assistant/Associate Curator of Academic Programs and part-time student assistants
- Coordinates faculty engagement, class visits, and teaching exhibitions
- Supports development, grant writing, and assessment of academic programs
- Occasional evening and weekend work; ability to lift up to 25 lbs
Eligibility Criteria
- Ph.D. in an object-focused field (art history, studio art, history, anthropology, archaeology)
- 5+ years professional museum experience (beyond internships), including 3+ years teaching in museums or higher education
- Broad knowledge of art and material culture; openness to learning new subjects
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Supervisory experience and commitment to inclusive learning environments
- Experience with art handling, TMS, project management software, and foreign languages is a plus
