Job Description

Kunsthalle Mannheim is seeking a Curator of Classical Modernism and Painting to develop innovative exhibitions, conduct scholarly research, and oversee the museum’s collection in these fields. The role includes exhibition planning, loan negotiations, publications, public engagement, media strategies, budget management, and fundraising.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and implement exhibitions in Classical Modernism and Painting (19th–21st century)
  • Manage and expand the museum’s collection, aligning with strategic objectives
  • Develop strategies for diversifying the collection
  • Establish and maintain relationships within the regional, national, and international art scene
  • Engage in fundraising and acquisition of third-party funding

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Art History, Art Studies, or a related field
  • Expertise in Classical Modernism and Painting (19th–21st century) with a strong professional network
  • Experience in curatorial work, museum administration, and exhibition planning
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in German and English (additional languages preferred)
  • Proficiency in project management, fundraising, and digital tools (Microsoft Office, MuseumPlus, Social Media)
