This is an exciting time to join National Museums Liverpool. Attracting more than three million visitors a year, we are eight exceptional museums and galleries, sharing important stories from ancient times to today through our four million objects. An organisation with a strong educational purpose, we also strive to be the most inclusive museums service in the country, offering memorable experiences that are for everyone, challenging expectations.
National Museums Liverpool (NML) is offering a specialist curator an exciting opportunity to work with internationally important collections of primarily historic western art – paintings, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts and old master prints and drawings. These are housed in NML’s three art galleries: the Walker Art Gallery, Lady Lever Art Gallery and Sudley House. The international fine art collections range across eight centuries to the present day, and hold important groups of medieval and renaissance art, renowned works by 17th- and 18th-century artists from continental Europe, as well as key paintings and sculptures by the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. The collection also contains 20th-century and contemporary holdings including works by Picasso, Takis, Bill Viola and Zanele Muholi.
NML is recruiting a new Curator of International Fine Art on the retirement of our long- serving Curator of European Fine Art. The post will offer opportunities to: supervise the re-display and re-interpretation of our Baroque art, including paintings by Murillo, Poussin, Rembrandt, Rubens, and leading Italian artists; develop and enlarge our collections; devise and curate new exhibitions; engage with our diverse visitors in the galleries and online; and build on our reputation for making research accessible and exciting. We are seeking a curator with experience and a flair for making historic art stimulating for a broad audience in the contemporary world.
