
Curator of Programs & Social Practice
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Curator of Programs & Social Practice leads Shangri La’s public engagement through the curation, development and management of programmatic and social practice oriented residencies and public and education programs in ways that enrich the understanding of Shangri La’s collections, cultural resources, exhibitions and mission. The incumbent will oversee educational and programmatic staff, and work with the Executive Director and Curator of Collections & Exhibitions to curate Shangri La’s dynamic residency program with an emphasis on performing arts, social practice and learning – artists, cultural producers, thought leaders and movement organizers whose work focuses on community building and public intervention. The goal of public engagement at Shangri La is to be a site for innovative and interactive experiences that activate and connect art, community and civic engagement. The ideal candidate models excellence in presenting and producing world-class museum experiences, possesses a vision for how to advance and challenge the boundaries of Islamic art and design through programs and social practice and believes that museums improve the quality of people’s lives and their communities.
