About the Role
The Curator of Visual Arts, Media, and Technology will be responsible for curating innovative exhibitions and overseeing collections related to digital media, technology, and design. This role involves developing and managing museum collections, engaging audiences through exhibitions and programs, and fostering collaborations within MIT and beyond.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and curate exhibitions at the intersection of art, science, and technology.

Manage and expand museum collections, particularly in photography, holography, and digital media.

Oversee conservation and preservation efforts for physical and digital artifacts.

Lead and contribute to large-scale exhibition projects and public programs.

Engage communities through talks, teaching, and outreach activities.

Collaborate with MIT departments and external institutions to develop partnerships.

Participate in fundraising, grant writing, and scholarly activities.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience:
-
Master’s degree in history of art, architecture, design, photography, or a related field.

Minimum of 8 years of experience as a curator or researcher in visual arts, media, and technology.

Strong knowledge of the history of visual media, technology, and design.

Experience handling museum collections, including digital media and archival materials.

Proven ability to develop and manage exhibitions and public programs.

Strong writing skills demonstrated through publications, exhibitions, and conference presentations.

Preferred:

Doctoral degree in a relevant field.

Senior curatorial experience with a strong exhibition and collection record.

Grant writing and fundraising experience.

Proficiency in museum database and management systems (e.g., MimsyXG, Piction DAMS).

Experience with digital imaging technology and software (Photoshop, Lightroom).

Fluency in a language other than English.

Valid driver’s license.

Additional Requirements

Ability to handle artifacts and archival materials, including lifting up to 35 pounds.

Occasional travel required for collections management, donor meetings, and conferences.

Availability for evening and weekend events as needed.
