About the Role

The British Museum is seeking a Curator of South Asia to manage the museum’s South Asian collections, focusing on medieval to modern works, including Himalayan and Islamic South Asian collections. The role involves research, curation, and making the collections publicly accessible through publications, digital platforms, and displays. Key responsibilities include:

  • Curating, presenting, and researching the South Asian collections, including sculpture, painting, works on paper, popular prints, decorative arts, and photography.
  • Leading the improvement of the documentation and display of the collection.
  • Advocating for the museum and working as a team with colleagues.
  • Collaborating with national and international institutions and stakeholders.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • BA/BSc (or equivalent) in South Asian Art History, South Asian History, or a related subject.
  • Experience with temporary exhibitions or gallery refurbishments.
  • Experience managing research or fieldwork projects.
  • Public engagement experience in the relevant field.
  • Management experience with people, projects, and budgets.
  • Strong communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and present in public.
