Duration: Full Time, June 16 – August 15, 2025 (35 hours/week)
Stipend: $7,200 (pre-tax, one-time lump sum)

SFMOMA invites applications for its Summer 2025 Curatorial Affairs Internship, offering an immersive experience in curatorial artist liaison practices across its five collecting departments. The intern will work closely with the Curatorial Affairs team to support the Lifetime Artist and On View Artist Membership programs, ensuring inclusive and meaningful engagement with artists whose works are part of the museum’s collection or exhibitions.
Responsibilities
- Audit and Analysis:
- Perform an audit of artists in the collection and recent exhibitions.
- Create an internal dashboard summarizing artist membership distributions.
- Cross-Departmental Collaboration:
- Collaborate with Collections, Exhibitions, CRMES, Visitor Experience, and IT staff to refine artist membership onboarding processes.
- Process Improvement:
- Develop system recommendations to enhance membership tracking and activation.
- Final Presentation:
- Deliver a report and presentation summarizing findings and proposed improvements to a cross-departmental audience.
Educational Objectives
This internship provides a holistic understanding of curatorial practices, artist liaison processes, and collaborative museum operations. Interns will gain experience in data management, user experience design, and museum programming, along with exposure to modern and contemporary art collection practices.
Additional Programming
Interns will participate in:
- Weekly discussions with museum departments.
- Off-site educational visits in the Bay Area.
- Access to museum tours and events.
Qualifications & Skills
- Currently enrolled or a recent graduate (within 6 months of start date).
- Interest in museum studies, art history, or user experience for artists.
- Strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with modern and contemporary art.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
