
Curatorial and Exhibitions Coordinator
The San Antonio Museum of Art seeks a Curatorial & Exhibitions Coordinator to work in our Curatorial Department!
Job Summary: Assist and coordinate the curatorial and exhibits/collection teams in the planning, organization, and execution of special exhibitions and reinstallations of the permanent collection. Collaborate and coordinate with all Museum departments in the development and implementation of exhibitions and reinstallations; related programming; and marketing initiatives. Coordinate with the curators, registrars, and Chair of the Collections Committee in the acquisition process and the organization of the Collections Committee Meeting.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Exhibitions/Reinstallations:
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of exhibitions, in-house and traveling, permanent collection reinstallations as related to organization, development and implementation
- Create, coordinate, and manage schedules, budgets, and workflow across multiple exhibitions/projects
- Generates closing exhibition report for Museum archives and distributes to organizing venues as needed
- Maintain and distribute Exhibitions calendars
- Generate agenda and coordinate monthly Exhibitions meetings
- Meet with Collections and Exhibitions departments bi-weekly and follow up with appropriate staff for completion of action items
Collections Committee:
- Coordinate with Collections Committee Chair and Executive Assistant to the Director to schedule Collections Committee meetings; coordinates with Curatorial Department to ensure all Visiting Committee meetings are scheduled in advance of Collections Committee meetings
- Collaborate with Curatorial and Collections Department to write meeting agendas; compile and distribute meeting materials to Committee, both physical and digital; record meeting minutes
- Coordinate with Collections and Exhibitions Department to have proposed works temporarily installed for Committee’s review
- Track and report Committee RSVPs and attendance, noting whether a meeting has reached a quorum
- Assists Curatorial Department with Visiting Committee preparations, agenda, and minutes as needed
Chief Curator/Curatorial Department:
- Maintains Chief Curator’s calendar, scheduling and coordinating departmental meetings and events
- Makes travel and hotel arrangements for Chief Curator and other staff when necessary, as well as for curatorial guests
- Code, submit, and circulate general departmental invoices; initiates payment requests for expenses and reimbursements
- Orders supplies as needed for Curatorial Department; coordinate with Operations and IT any office changes, new hires, and software needs for Curatorial Department
- Provides administrative support to the Chief Curator and Curatorial Department as needed
Requirements: 0-2 years’ experience in a museum, art organization, or non-profit
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts or Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, or related field
