About Kunsthalle Winterthur

Kunsthalle Winterthur is a unique venue for contemporary art, located in historic premises in the heart of Winterthur’s old town. Annually, it presents four to five rotating exhibitions, featuring national and international artists, as well as local talents from Winterthur. The exhibitions are complemented by lectures, film screenings, artist talks, and other formats. In 2025, planned exhibitions include works by Vera Palme and Maud Sulter.

Position Overview

Kunsthalle Winterthur is seeking a dedicated individual with knowledge of contemporary art to assume the role of Curatorial Assistant. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director, taking on various responsibilities within the institution. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of ambitious exhibitions and events, with the potential to advance to a curatorial role.

Key Responsibilities

Exhibition and Event Development:

  • Assist in research and conceptualization of exhibitions.
  • Correspond with artists and project partners.
  • Aid in planning exhibition productions.
  • Coordinate exhibition installations and dismantling in collaboration with the technical team.
  • Manage loan agreements and transportation logistics.
  • Prepare condition reports.
  • Support grant applications.
  • Produce and proofread texts.
  • Conduct exhibition tours.

Press and Public Relations:

  • Update the website.
  • Create and distribute newsletters.
  • Develop press materials.
  • Communicate with local and international press representatives.
  • Manage and potentially enhance social media presence.

Candidate Profile

  • Completed university degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, or a related field.
  • Ideally, experience working in an art institution.
  • Extensive knowledge of contemporary art.
  • Structured and precise working style.
  • Ability to work independently and take on responsibility.
  • Excellent German and English language skills, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency in standard Office programs and Adobe Creative Suite.
