Curatorial Assistant

Reporting to the Sondra Gilman Curator of Photography, this full-time Curatorial Assistant will assist with scholarly curatorial projects as well as a variety of administrative tasks; knowledge of photography and postwar contemporary art is preferred, but not required.

 


Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning and installation of exhibitions (correspondence, loan forms, checklists)
  • Work on catalogues and other publications (including obtaining images and reproduction permissions; compiling bibliographical archives and other back matter)
  • Conduct research on artists and works
  • Write didactic labels and other copy as needed
  • Assist with museum acquisitions and meetings of the Photography Acquisition Committee
  • Coordinate information among various museum departments
  • Serve as liaison with the curator’s internal and external contacts, including trustees, donors, and Photography Committee members
  • Provide daily administrative support (telephone, records maintenance, correspondence, general office and clerical duties)


Requirements:

  • B.A. in art history (M.A. a plus); three years of museum and/or gallery experience
  • Good knowledge of, and interest in, both twentieth-century art history and contemporary art
  • Clerical and organizational skills, including experience with TMS, Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Excellent writing, research, and communication skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to handle several projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
