The Museum of Modern Art seeks a Curatorial Assistant for the Department of Media and Performance to support a major forthcoming retrospective of a prominent visual artist and filmmaker, alongside other time-based media projects. The role involves assisting with exhibitions, performances, acquisitions, collection care, publications, and online content, as well as liaising with artists, collaborators, and internal departments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and research support for exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and curatorial inquiries
- Coordinate loans, prepare exhibition checklists, and determine technical specifications for media and performance works
- Assist with development of interpretive materials, conservation, photography, and installation logistics
- Support online content for MoMA’s platforms, including Magazine and Modern Mondays
- Communicate with artists regarding selection, display, and contextualization of works
- Conduct inspections of works on view and assist with live performances
- Supervise interns and coordinate departmental activities
- Stay informed on current developments in media and performance art through research, visits, and networking
Requirements
- Master’s degree in art history or related field, with expertise in media and performance histories
- Experience working with live and time-based art and collaborating with living artists
- Strong research, writing, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Digital fluency and online project experience
- Reading and conversational fluency in a second language preferred
