Curatorial Assistant – Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, United States

Department: Learning & Interpretation
Contract: Full-time
Salary: From $42,000 annually
Hours: 35-hour work week
Location: Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States
Reports to: Director of Learning and Interpretation

Philbrook Museum of Art is seeking a full-time Curatorial Assistant to support exhibitions, installations, collection development, interpretive projects, publications, and select public programs. The role works closely with the curatorial team and collaborates across departments including Development, Communications, Education, and Guest Experience.

The Curatorial Assistant combines research, writing, and editorial skills with strong administrative and logistical capacity, contributing to both short- and long-term projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and develop content for temporary exhibitions and permanent collection installations

  • Prepare and maintain exhibition checklists

  • Draft and review label copy and interpretive texts

  • Curate projects as assigned

  • Provide administrative support (scheduling, invoice processing, budget tracking, database updates, correspondence)

  • Attend exhibition meetings and coordinate cross-departmental communication

  • Prepare presentations and materials for internal and external meetings

  • Lead or support tours and public programs

  • Conduct research on collection objects and potential acquisitions

  • Enter data into TMS (The Museum System) collections database

  • Coordinate and attend curatorial events and programs

  • Track art donation and purchase offers

  • Respond to public inquiries

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Art History or a related field

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in a museum or art-related capacity

  • Strong writing and presentation skills for general museum audiences

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, project management tools, and collections databases (including TMS)

  • Excellent organizational and project management skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities

  • Ability to manage deadlines and work collaboratively across departments
