Lakeland Arts is Seeking a Curatorial Assistant
Department: Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts House
Contract: Fixed-term, 2 years
Hours: Part-time, 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE)
Salary: £25,500 pro rata (£15,300 per annum)
Reports to: Programme Curator
Location: Blackwell, Bowness-on-Windermere (with occasional travel to Windermere Jetty Museum and Abbot Hall, Kendal)

Lakeland Arts is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to support the delivery of exhibitions, displays, and public engagement programmes at Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house. This two-year fixed-term role supports the Curatorial Team during a major touring exhibition project developed with network partners William Morris Gallery, Dovecot Studios, and Ty Pawbas part of Art Fund’s “Going Places” initiative.
The position offers early-career professionals hands-on experience across research, exhibition development, and installation within a small and collaborative curatorial team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the research, planning, and delivery of exhibitions and displays
- Conduct collections research
- Liaise with artists and lenders
- Draft exhibition texts and object labels
- Assist with installation and deinstallation
- Provide administrative and practical support to the Curatorial Team
- Occasionally supervise volunteers and student placements
Working Conditions
- Based primarily at Blackwell (Bowness-on-Windermere)
- Flexible working from home possible where projects allow
- Occasional travel to:
- Windermere Jetty Museum (Bowness-on-Windermere)
- Abbot Hall (Kendal)
