Desert X is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to support the curatorial and artistic team in the production of its international site-specific biennial exhibition in the Coachella Valley. The role combines administrative coordination, production support, and research within a contemporary art context, working closely with artists, curators, and external partners.

The Curatorial Assistant provides essential support across curatorial, logistical, and administrative workflows for exhibitions and public programs. The position plays a key role in coordinating artists, managing documentation, and supporting the delivery of large-scale site-specific projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate travel, logistics, and expense reports for curators, artists, and guests
  • Provide general administrative support to the curatorial team (mail, inquiries, scheduling, supplies)
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, reports, and project documentation
  • Support public and educational programming and exhibition events
  • Conduct research on artists, projects, and exhibition sites
  • Maintain archives and documentation for exhibitions and programs
  • Liaise with artists, galleries, and studios for site visits and logistics
  • Coordinate itineraries, meetings, and on-site support for artists
  • Assist with contracts, loan agreements, and production timelines
  • Support budget coordination and vendor communication
  • Assist in staffing coordination for exhibitions and information hubs


Candidate Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant administrative experience
  • Interest or background in contemporary art
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication and professional interpersonal abilities
  • Proficiency in standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat)
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and in teams
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to travel when required
