Rate of pay: $22.50/hour + 4% vacation pay

The Reach Gallery Museum invites applications for a Curatorial Assistant position under the Canada Summer Jobs programme. The role is open to aspiring and/or emerging cultural professionals with an interest in the development and presentation of contemporary art exhibitions.
The Curatorial Assistant will work under the supervision and mentorship of the Curator of Art & Visual Culture, supporting exhibition projects across research, development, production and installation phases.
The position provides hands-on experience in curatorial theory and methodologies, and involves participation in multiple projects of varying scope and scale, contributing to research, interpretive planning, project management and editing.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must:
- be aged between 15 and 30 years at the start of the position
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee protection status in Canada
- be legally entitled to work in Canada, including a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Candidates who do not meet these requirements cannot be considered.
Qualifications & Skills
- Undergraduate degree (BA/BFA) in art history, visual arts, museum studies, cultural anthropology, history or related field (advanced undergraduate students may be considered)
- Research experience in contemporary art and/or curatorial practice (paid or volunteer)
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn museum and gallery curatorial processes
- Strong organisational and project management skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Proficiency or willingness to learn Microsoft Office (Excel, Word annotation tools), file sharing systems, project management tools (e.g. Monday.com), and scheduling tools
- Ability to exercise judgement and take initiative when appropriate
- Problem-solving ability and adaptability
- Professional, collaborative and responsive working approach
