
Curatorial Assistant | USA

Position Summary:
Under supervision, the Curatorial Assistant performs logistical, clerical, research, and implementation duties related to the collection and the museum’s special exhibition program.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the curatorial department, including managing telephone and digital inquiries from the public, processing mail, and ordering supplies.
- Assist curators in timely preparation of collections and special exhibitions information, including, but not limited to, funding proposals, checklists, mailing lists, loan letters, and image research and reproduction.
- Serve as website point person for department, including, but not limited to, reviewing content on department’s web pages on designated schedule; inputting new/updated content into Drupal backend; creating event listings and Convio forms as needed; and attending social media forum meetings as appropriate.
- Serve as department’s point person for technology platforms including, but not limited to, SharePoint, Raiser’s Edge, and the Digital Asset Management System, uploading and/or managing curatorial content.
- Serve as a source of specialized information to the public, visiting scholars, artists, and students regarding the museum’s collection.
- Participate in preparations for quarterly Works of Art Committee meetings and disseminate minutes to committee members.
- Facilitate set-up and preparation of department meetings as well as meetings with artists, collectors, and arts organizations, as requested by curators.
- Assist with development of departmental budgets; manage existing budgets.
- As assigned by the chief curator, may also conduct research on the collection, give gallery tours to the general public, and curate small exhibitions from the collection and oversee special projects.
- Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
This position requires a BA in Art History (MA preferred) with experience in an art museum setting.
Successful applicant will possess:
- Demonstrated experience in organizing and managing multi-part and long-term projects.
- Experience working collaboratively within an organization and with partner organizations.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to deal patiently and thoughtfully with members of the public.
- Passion for working with living artists.
- Fluency in a second language (preferred).
