Salary: $47,016 to $61,122 per year

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is seeking applications for qualified individuals to serve assistants within the Curatorial Office of the Smithsonian American Art Museum (SAAM). The incumbents independently perform a variety of programmatic, research, and administrative duties in support of the museum’s exhibitions, acquisitions, and programmatic initiatives. The incumbents will work with a team of 10 curators in a variety of specialized areas (sculpture, photography, contemporary art, prints and drawings, Latinx art, 19th and 20th century art, time-based media, and self-taught art). The curatorial assistants will provide information and assist with the coordination of a full-scale reinstallation of the permanent collection galleries that will take place over the next two years.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
- Collecting, organizing and preparing materials related to the collections, exhibitions, publications, or other projects, performing basic research into biographical information, attribution, media, title, subject, and date.
- Responding to general public inquiries about the museum and its collections, researching basic information through curatorial files, the collections database, and library and archival sources.
- Drafting and preparing g text, captions, or other material in the proper format.
- Generating reports and checklists, taking notes on meetings, and following up on action items.
- Organizing and tracking curatorial projects, correspondence and reports and serving as liaison between Curatorial and other offices.
- Maintaining databases and files on artists and artworks.
