Full time/Non-Exempt /40 hours a week, Monday through Friday incorporating occasional evenings and weekends as needed. The Museum is an EOE.

The Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, Nevada seeks a detail-oriented and self-motivated curatorial assistant to support the daily activities of the curatorial department. Position involves administrative and hands-on responsibilities with occasional public speaking and exhibition coordination opportunities as assigned. This position reports to the Exhibitions Coordinator. Founded in 1931, the Museum is the only AAM accredited art museum in Nevada. The collections and exhibitions of the Museum extend from late 19th century to 21st century and have a particular focus on art and the environment, both regionally and internationally. The Nevada Museum of Art established its Center for Art + Environment in January 2009.

Requirements

  • Responsible for a range of clerical projects related to the organization and daily administration of the curatorial department.
  • Respond to and track general curatorial department correspondence related to individual artist and exhibition submissions, and general research inquiries.
  • Prepare and distribute Collections Committee meeting documents. Take minutes at Committee Meetings. Assist with preparation of Collections Financial Report and quarterly acquisition reports.
  • Maintain exhibition archives. Coordinate all artist and institutional exhibition closure packets. Assist with the production of publications and copyright permission projects. Manage the packaging and distribution of publications.
  • Coordinate exhibitions in the Museum’s smaller galleries as assigned. Participate in Exhibition Team planning meetings and complete tasks related to exhibition preparation. Prepare and design exhibition labels, and assist, as needed, in the gallery during exhibition installations.
  • Assist the Curators, Registrar, and Preparator with various additional tasks as required. Manage reporting of the departmental credit card. Assist with the management of department interns. Maintain general department correspondence with artists and collectors of interest to the Museum.
  • Interact professionally with Colleagues, Trustees, Volunteers, and Sponsors.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Candidates must have a B.A. in art history or a related field with at least one-year experience in either the curatorial or education department of an art museum or an art gallery is highly recommended. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and organizational skills required. Candidate must be self-motivated, ambitious, and a team player.
