Cincinnati Art Museum, Cincinnati, USA
Contract: Full-time, 70 hours biweekly
Location: On-site in Cincinnati, OH
Salary: $40,000–$43,000 annually
The Cincinnati Art Museum seeks a Curatorial Assistant to support the Curator of American Paintings, Sculpture & Drawings. The position involves research, project coordination, writing, and collaboration across departments to support exhibitions, publications, acquisitions, and public engagement focusing on U.S. art from the colonial period to the 1960s.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and document collection objects and related topics
- Assist with exhibitions, installations, and permanent collection presentations
- Manage publication workflows: manuscripts, rights, proofreading
- Support acquisition research, writing, and database cataloging
- Write scholarly and general public texts
- Deliver public gallery talks and lectures
- Educate docents and volunteers
- Assist visiting scholars and respond to external inquiries
- Participate in the Friends of American Paintings, Sculpture and Drawings group
- Attend meetings and museum events, including some evenings
- Carry out additional departmental tasks as assigned
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Art History, American History, or American Studies required; Master’s preferred
- Strong interest in American art and visitor engagement
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Experience using libraries, archives, and digital research tools
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; TMS or similar collection database experience a plus
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects
- Team-oriented with a collaborative and public-facing attitude
