Overview
The Whitworth Art Gallery is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to support the management, access, research, cataloging, and digitization of its collections, particularly in Historic Art. This role includes assisting with exhibitions, public engagement, and program delivery to make the Whitworth’s collections relevant and accessible to diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with collections management, including storage, digitization, and loan processing.
- Provide administrative and logistical support for exhibitions, displays, and public programs.
- Coordinate research visits, talks, and study center bookings.
- Help maintain exhibition timelines and manage related documentation, including financial processes.
- Collaborate with teams on digital content and communication materials.
- Support the library and archive activities related to collections and exhibitions.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Degree in Art, Art History, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
- Interest in Historic Art and collections at the Whitworth.
- Experience with exhibitions, project coordination, and administrative tasks.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with gallery/museum management systems and design software.
Desirable:
- Experience in office environments or using collection management software.
- Knowledge of transnational curating practices and licensure processes for commercial use.
