The Curatorial Assistant (Exhibitions) supports programme delivery at the Whitworth Art Gallery, assisting with exhibitions, touring projects, collections displays, and public engagement. This role also involves administrative support and activities related to the management, access, and digitisation of the gallery’s collection.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with exhibition coordination, including design software, graphics, interpretation materials, and loan administration.
- Provide administrative support, including drafting letters, minuting meetings, managing budgets, and processing financials.
- Collaborate with artists, galleries, and stakeholders to deliver exhibitions and public programmes.
- Facilitate public events, collection management, and research visits.
- Support printed publications and the organisation of the gallery’s library and archives.
- Promote inclusive practices, emphasizing anti-racism and diversity in exhibitions and collections.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Undergraduate degree in Art, Art History, or related fields, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with historic or heritage exhibitions.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with 3D design software is a plus.
- Knowledge of collection management systems and practices.
Desirable:
- Experience in office environments and with collection management software (e.g., EMu).
- Interest in transnational curating and collaboration.
