Curatorial Assistant, Painting & Sculpture
Reporting to the Andrew W. Mellon Curator and Head of Painting and Sculpture, the Curatorial Assistant primarily supports the department’s work on the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, and accessions, as assigned. This position provides assistance to the department curators in the research, documentation, development, presentation and interpretation of the SFMOMA collections. The Curatorial Assistant builds and maintains advantageous relations with the art community including artists, collectors, dealers, donors, and staff from other museums.
SFMOMA’s painting and sculpture collection spans the years 1900 to the present, with particular strengths in California, American, and European modern and contemporary art. Current department research and acquisition initiatives aim at expanding the narratives within the collection to better represent the historical impact of BIPOC, women, and LGBTQ artists, and we seek candidates committed to helping us further this ongoing work.
