Job Description

The Curatorial Assistant – Temporary is responsible for supporting the Collections department’s activities. This role includes participation in the “Access to the Collection” digitization project, working closely with the Head of Collections Access.

Duration and Location

This temporary role is based in Boston, MA, from February to June 2024. Preference is for local candidates. Note: No agency applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collection and Exhibition Information:
    • Cataloguing collection objects in the database.
    • Administering collection image requests.
    • Providing and fact-checking collection information for editorial content.
    • Handling internal and external collection inquiries.
    • Maintaining curatorial object files and research library.
    • Contributing to the Museum’s blog and social media posts.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Managing the Curator’s calendar and travel arrangements.
    • Preparing meeting agendas, managing budgets, and processing payments.
    • Organizing departmental records and managing office supplies.
    • Planning and coordinating departmental events.
    • Managing departmental contacts and outreach.

Requirements

  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in art history (Master’s preferred).
    • 1-3 years in a museum or art gallery.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
    • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Workspace, and basic Photoshop.
    • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Core Competencies:
    • Thoroughness and conceptual thinking.
    • Strong initiative and communication skills.
    • Ability to build collaborative relationships.
