Introduction
The Curatorial Associate, reporting to the Director of Exhibitions and Programs, plays a crucial role in implementing and expanding the curatorial program at Print Center New York. Collaborating with internal teams and external partners, including guest curators, this position is responsible for executing two exhibitions annually, alongside related public programs and publications. In alignment with institutional goals, the Curatorial Associate, alongside the Executive Director and Director of Exhibitions and Programs, contributes to long-term curatorial planning and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of gallery, museum, or nonprofit curatorial experience.
- MA or equivalent preferred in art history, curatorial practice, or related field.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities.
- Excellent communication skills, connecting effectively with diverse collaborators.
- Demonstrated creative and strategic thinking, connecting work to broader artistic and cultural conversations.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Availability to work Saturdays and occasional weekday evenings.
Responsibilities
Exhibitions & Publications
- Align curatorial strategy with institutional goals and engage in Program Committee meetings.
- Manage curatorial projects from proposal to production, collaborating with internal and external teams.
- Maintain curatorial rationales and checklists, assist in loan requests and borrowing negotiations.
- Contribute to exhibition layouts, interpretive materials, and in-gallery visitor experience.
- Develop installation plans, editorial workflows, and budgets.
- Oversee editorial content for publications, ensuring clarity and persuasiveness.
- Assist with press releases, grant narratives, and other written content.
Public Engagement
- Conduct research and participate in public programming to extend engagement with exhibitions.
- Lead exhibition tours and staff training tours.
- Visit galleries, museums, printshops, and artists’ studios to represent Print Center New York and stay current in the print and contemporary art field.
Salary Range
$35,880–$39,000 annually (3 days per week, 24 hours per week)
