About the Role
Join the Modern and Contemporary Art Department at the Art Institute of Chicago. This role offers the opportunity to support exhibitions, gallery rotations, research, and acquisitions related to the museum’s exceptional collection spanning 1900 to the present. Work in a collaborative environment with over 50,000 square feet of gallery space dedicated to groundbreaking modern and contemporary art.
Key Responsibilities
- Exhibitions & Projects: Assist in organizing exhibitions, gallery rotations, and special projects.
- Research: Conduct art historical and market research on works in the collection and acquisitions.
- Database Management: Update object records for internal use and online publication.
- Curatorial Support: Collaborate on content development, advisory committee meetings, and administrative tasks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with galleries, donors, and peers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in art history or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 1+ years of curatorial experience in a museum or gallery.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with museum database systems is a plus.
- Expertise or specialization in modern and contemporary art.
- Strong research, writing, and project management skills.
- Language skills relevant to specialty areas are preferred.
