Job Description:

CURATORIAL ASSOCIATE, PUBLIC ART, List Visual Arts Center, to oversee and develop the institution’s collections and public art projects. This includes the research, acquisition, exhibition, writing, and education surrounding MIT’s world-class public art collection, permanent collection, and Student Loan Art Program. Will also hold curatorial support responsibilities–supervised by the curator–for special exhibitions. Responsibilities include researching and proposing artists for the Percent-for-Art commission, serving as primary contact with artists/galleries/fabricators, working with general counsel on contracts, overseeing budget, and ensuring timely installations; working with registrar on managing conservation projects, researching potential acquisitions, curating exhibitions from the permanent and Student Loan Art collections for off-site exhibition spaces, and collaborating on object selections for public spaces on campus; working with curator on developing curatorial public programs related to temporary exhibitions and with curatorial fellow and outreach coordinator to execute curatorial public programs; developing and overseeing execution of bi-annual Wasserman Forum on Contemporary Art; providing curatorial support for temporary exhibitions, managing checklists, drafting lender request letters and artists contracts, researching and writing didactics, and communicating with artists/galleries; researching and selecting–with curator–the loan or commissioning of temporary public artworks; and a variety of other duties as requested.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: M.A. in art history, curatorial studies, museum studies, or arts administration; ability to foster and maintain collegial professional interactions between List director, staff, and larger MIT community; excellent organizational, administrative and written and oral communication skills; ability to work on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Adobe Suite, and Excel; and expertise in contemporary art. Must be knowledgeable about and engaged with international contemporary art and art scene. Job #14398-N
